"Crazy Ants Are About to Invade Houston"

On March 27, 2014 Olivia B. Waxman of TIME Magazine
published an article. The interesting and informative article, “ Crazy Ants Are
About to Invade Houston” discusses the one “downside” of spring in Houston,
Texas. The CBS and KPRC of Houston
are trying to alert and warn residents that “crazy ants “ are going to
dynamically “invade” the area throughout the whole week. These ants classified as “Rasberry Crazy
ants” after a local exterminator with the name Tom Rasberry discovered them
back in 2012. These vicious ants like under rocks, trees and lawns. They also
tend to crawl into electrical equipment and damage machines. Some say these
ants are worse than Fire ants – “the world’s worst invasive species.” Said to
be originally from central South America, these ants have spread all the way to
Texas, southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. This has happened
over the years, because they can easy reside in any place. Places such as empty
containers, RVs and even houseplants are only a few of the many places they
like to hide. Pest specialist told Houston News outlets to help the residents,
that preventing invasions such as these
can be done by removing some of the excess wood in ones yard.
This article made me emotional. The parallels I drew from these ants and the Armenian people are to similar to ignore. The Armenian people were forced to leave their homeland in the early twentieth century. Factors, especially economic and social, today encourage emigration from Armenia. Armenians originated from Armenia but have spread throughout the world. The world gave Armenians dangerous people, but in the end they are just people. Ants are ants, people are people. I encourage all to love and hate on those who hate.
ReplyDeleteFor one who does not like ants, I shuddered while reading this blog. During summertime I also have a few ants in my house, but those ants are not harmless or as dangerous as the ones talked about in this blog. Fire ants are already horrible and I cannot imagine ants more dangerous than Fire ants. Hopefully these “Raspberry Crazy ants” do not spread to California.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those girls who absolutely hate bugs and anything that is creepy and crawls. I do not agree with Aram's comparison. Armenians didn't go and destroy other people's properties like ants can destroy machines and electronics. I so do not look forward to the bugs in the summer, especially in Armenia. This was a great blog! I learned something new. Terrific work, Kanricles.
ReplyDeleteNever have I thought that one person, let alone a whole city fear and dread the arrival of ants into one's home. Fire ants are known to have a nasty bite and to just completely overrun everything and not be able to be stopped. Fear for these ants is understandable, since the ants seem to be able to cause damage by going into people's electrical systems and cause damage. Now thats what i call a "bug in the system".
