                                -Time Magazine

Jack Dickey of Time Magazine published an article on February 28, 2014. The unexpected yet interesting article, “Former ‘Wig Guru’ Sues Rapper Nicki Minaj” discusses famous celebrity and rapper Nicki Minaj’s incident with her former wig designer. Terrence Davidson, Minaj’s former ‘wig guru’ is said to be filling a law suit against her for stealing and licensing designs he had made and customized just for her. Minaj did not inform him about any new changes she was making and disclosed him from massive profits. Time Magazine later learned, that Minaj and he team had also discouraged him from joining a “multi-million-dollar” deal, using the excuse that it would “disrupt their partnership.” Davidson’s attorney Cristopher Chestnut plans to pursue at least thirty million dollars in damages for Davidson. Davidson and Minaj had started working together in January of 2010 when Minaj had released her album Pink Friday. Ever since their first collaboration, Davidsons designed have been a big part of Minaj’s identity as well as career. As Minaj gained fame, so did her wigs and Davidson. Apparently, many opportunities arose for Davidson, but his partnership with Minaj stood in the way. Finally, in 2013 Davidson left Minaj and her team saying it was due to their “creative differences”. Now, Minaj has started her own line of Wigs on her website, but are they really hers?

As I sit outside, on the footsteps of my porch, I see green and verdant plants that sway in the light and calming breeze. I hear the dry rustling leaves as the move in the air. Vibrant flowers fill the front yard and color the surroundings with lovely pinks, shades of orange and pretty yellows. I hear cars from a distance as they zoom by in the streets far away. I take deep breathes and smell flowers and the crisp fresh air of the fine, sunny afternoon. I see snails wandering around and squirrels chasing each other. The air is filled with the never-ending song of birds chirping from their nests in trees above. I see a shady stairway flooded with dry yellow leaves all the way down to the street. Birds soar high in the distance chasing clouds as they go. Long thin trees sway from side to side and wave hello.

I feel myself captured and drawn in by the loveliness of my surroundings, the nature, and the life outside my everyday environment. I think about how hectic our lives tend to become, leaving us unable to realize the beauty and simplicity of the life around us. It crosses my mind how technology gets in the way of us stopping for a moment and acknowledging what the lovely world around us has to offer. Finally, I find myself losing track of time in a mix of thoughts sitting in the same place I had been sitting for the past twenty minutes, lost in the captivating beauty of the life around me.
