Blog 8: Claims

Grown Ups 2 Review

Recently, Grown Ups Two was released in theaters. After the successful acceptance and positive response for Grown Ups One, by many audiences everywhere, one would imagine that Grown Ups Two would receive a similar, if not better, response. However, Washington Post discusses the contrary in this article. They review the plot of the film in a pessimistic approach, stating that it was a “waste of a talented cast.”  The Washington Post makes a claim of value, when stating their opinion on the movie. They argued their view, by writing negative feedback, such as how viewing the film could quite possibly drop the IQ level of the audience. However, this article does not provide any claims of facts, seeing as it does not discuss ticket sales, audience turn-outs, and the amount of money made throughout the production and release of the film. Also, it does not discuss the comparison of the success rate of Grown Ups One versus Grown Ups Two. This article also lacks a claim of policy, because there is no mention of a possibility in improving the situation. Nevertheless, there is not much that can be done in the case of film releases, because the film has already been produced and released. (Unlike an unpopular TV show, a film cannot be discontinued, taken off air, or altered and improved as the seasons progress).

  1. One might be incredibly excited to watch Grown Ups Two after the first movie. Grown Ups One was a comedy that satisfied it's audience with it's humor. On the other hand, Grown Ups Two did not do as well as the first movie did with critic ratings. This movie had high expectations from it's audience that it did not reach to. After one reads the review from the Washington Post, one may lose interest/excitement in visiting the theaters for this movie.

  2. The way the person who reviewed this movie can be slightly wrong and not similar to what others might think which makes it a personal opinion. Maybe some people did not enjoy the movie because they enjoyed watching the first one which made them have higher expectations for the second one. Just because it is not what they expected they should not "hate" on the movie and discourage others from watching it.

  3. On the contrary, the sequel to "Grown Ups" was hysterical! The foolish and childish humor of the characters was what fit the movie and made it naturally funny. Thought out plans of senseful jokes were not needed for the lighthearted audience this movie was directed towards. The film depicts the life of adults who were once teenagers, but never grew out of that immature phase even though they became older in age; thus the name of the movie "Grown Ups." Therefore, the language and actions of the actors and actresses suited the movie's idea perfectly.

  4. Every individual has their different perspectives on a matter as biased as movies. One might have thought the movie to be the greatest they had seen, whilst their friend next them thought it was absolutely horrendous. That being said, the mentioning of the positive reviews of the prequel to "Grown Ups 2" was a great way to start off your analysis. Solid job on the claims; for the next article, make sure the title of a movie is either italicized or underlined.

  5. The review given by The Washington Post may be extremely surprising to one. "Grown Ups 2" was certainly entertaining and amusing. The theater was completely full of laughter throughout the movie without getting a chance to take a breath before the next scene. This film gives people all around the world a view of the lives of adults who grew up together and will always have that special bond with each other. It teaches the true meaning of family and friendship to its audience while giving them humor to go along with it. Karnie did a marvelous job identifying the claims and wrote a remarkably appealing blog post. Great Job!

  6. The first "Grown Ups" was very comical. It is a movie that one can watch over and over, laughing each time they see it. But the sequels to most movies usually tend not to do as well as the first. Maybe that is because expectations are set too high, having based them off the first movie. Movie goers should have lower expections going into a sequel. That being said, a movie review is all a matter of opinion. No ones opinion on a movie can be wrong. Karnie, the way this was structured was great and it was worded extremely well. Good job!
