Blog 2: 1920's Clothing

During the 1920’s many things were changing. These changes brought new ways of how people dressed, especially for the women. “Flappers” and their clothing were very famous. However, other styles were also becoming popular. For the women, the length of their skirts would often change. For the beginning of this era, skirt heights rose to the knees and then a few years past, went back down to the ankles. Evening gowns or clothing were a bit flashy. Sportswear or everyday outfits were comfortable. And for work, traditional and conservative suits were worn. Dresses usually fell straight down till the ground, or broadened and flared at the hip or knee.  Sweaters and skirts were also matched together, usually with plaid patterns. Skirts were pleated and worn down low at the hip. Boyish looks were also trendy back then. Women started to wear curve-less dresses that hid their waist completely. Belts were not worn around the waist but around the hip. The “chemise” dress had become quite popular as well. Women’s casual attire included tennis and golfing uniforms, as well as comfortable skirts with “sailor” blouses. For the head, large “brim hats” were common and worn by many. As time went by more and more of the women started to dress like each other, creating a bold movement and era for the 1920’s clothing.

  1. Fashion has drastically changed over the years. The first to start this extreme change was the women of the 1920s, also known as the flappers. They began to dress freely and "inappropriately". Their skirts became shorter and these women started expressing themselves publicly, which before was looked down upon. If it were not for the women of 1920, stylish clothing would not be the same today. Great blog, Karnie!

  2. Karnie did a fantastic job describing the fashion of the 1920's. The dresses and glamour are incredibly attracting to the eye and would make one want to go back in time to that era. Life seemed more exciting and glamorous! Maybe this Friday at the Pilibos Gatsby Formal, the student body might get a feel of what it was like during the Roaring Twenties. Excellent work Karnie!

  3. It is truly stunning how quickly fashion trends can become influential. The Roaring Twenties is a perfect example of that rapidity of inspiration. Karnie did a marvelous job portraying the elements that made fashion prominent and remarkable during this time period. It would be delightful to experience being a fashionable and classy woman during the famous “Jazz Age”.
