"Former ‘Wig Guru’ Sues Rapper Nicki Minaj"
-Time Magazine
Jack Dickey of Time Magazine published an article on February
28, 2014. The unexpected yet interesting article, “Former ‘Wig Guru’ Sues Rapper
Nicki Minaj” discusses famous celebrity and rapper Nicki Minaj’s incident with
her former wig designer. Terrence Davidson, Minaj’s former ‘wig guru’ is said
to be filling a law suit against her for stealing and licensing designs he had
made and customized just for her. Minaj did not inform him about any new
changes she was making and disclosed him from massive profits. Time Magazine
later learned, that Minaj and he team had also discouraged him from joining a “multi-million-dollar”
deal, using the excuse that it would “disrupt their partnership.” Davidson’s attorney
Cristopher Chestnut plans to pursue at least thirty million dollars in damages
for Davidson. Davidson and Minaj had started working together in January of
2010 when Minaj had released her album Pink Friday. Ever since their first collaboration,
Davidsons designed have been a big part of Minaj’s identity as well as career.
As Minaj gained fame, so did her wigs and Davidson. Apparently, many opportunities
arose for Davidson, but his partnership with Minaj stood in the way. Finally,
in 2013 Davidson left Minaj and her team saying it was due to their “creative
differences”. Now, Minaj has started her own line of Wigs on her website, but
are they really hers?
